On November 20, many of the artists that appeared on the doublerelease One Step Up/Two Steps Back will perform together at Beacon Theatre in NewYork for a benefit for the World Hunger Year. The concert, which is also called Hungerthon97, at the same time looks like it's going to be a tribute to Bruce Springsteen. The night willfeature such names as Southside Johnny, Nils Lofgren and the Max Weinberg Seven. Brucehimself has also been invited to perform, but no word yet as to whether he'll show.... Read more

Bruce is going to contribute "Streets of Philadelphia" to the upcomingDiana tribute double CD which is set for release on December 1. Apart from Bruce theparticipiants are all the obvious: Sting, Elton John, Eric Clapton plus many others. Bruce performed last night (Friday) at Cheers Bar in New Jerseywith Bobby Bandiera. Together they performed "Mustang Sally" and a long version of"Lucille".This week has also seen the release of the One Step Up/Two Steps Back albums. Sorry for not keeping you up to date, but most of you of course willknow that Bruce performed with The Wallflowers at MTV's annual music video awards onSeptember 4. Bruce, sporting an unusually short haircut, played guitar and sang a verse onthe song "One Headlight". Prior to that he also performed at a club with a band called Jimmy& the Gigolos. Bruce did not turn up at Tradewinds or anywhere else last weekend (atleast not publicly). In return, there are now rumors of him planning more solo acoustic showsthis fall at American college auditoriums. If it's true, certainly no one can accuse him ofcommercialism, touring for an album which hasn't been near a chart for 18 months and for anaudience who will now no doubt mostly consist of fans who have already seen at least oneshow already. Rumors have been circulating for a while about Bruce appearing at a JoeGrushecky/Nils Lofgren show at Tradewinds on August 15th. Also quite likely is anappearance the next night at Cheers in Long Branch where Elliott Murphy is going toperform with Joe D'Urso.
